Call for submissions
African Safety Promotion: A Journal of Injury and Violence Prevention (ASP) will be published twice a year. Submissions within the following guidelines are welcome. Guide to Authors
There are five categories of submissions accepted for publication in the ASP. These include original contributions, short research reports, literature reviews, book reviews and short communications. The journal is multisectoral, and welcomes contributions from individuals or organizations interested or involved in the injury and violence prevention and containment sector in Africa. The sectors most closely related to the focus of the journal include the behavioural and social sciences, health professions, engineering, advocacy and educational sectors.

Manuscript preparation
The manuscript must be accompanied by a letter indicating that the article has not been published elsewhere. This letter must be signed by all listed authors to indicate their agreement with the submission. All manuscripts should be typed in double spacing with a margin of 3.5 cm on the left and right sides of the page. The manuscripts should be in 12 point Courier font, with the main headings in capitals and bold, and sub-headings in capitals. No enumerations and section numbering should be included, and all graphs and tables should be inserted at the end of the document.

Original contributions
Full scientific manuscripts accepted for this category should not exceed 25 pages, including the title page, references, figures and tables.

Short research reports
Shorter scientific manuscripts, reporting on studies utilising limited samples, new methodologies, or replication studies, can be submitted for this category and should not exceed 12 pages, including tables and figures.

Literature reviews
Manuscripts submitted as literature reviews should not exceed 30 pages in total.

Book reviews
Review copies of books may be sent to Professor Mohamed Seedat at PO Box 1087, Lenasia, 1820, South Africa.

Short communications
These communications include commentaries on events in the injury prevention sector, and organisation or programme reports. These should not exceed four pages, inclusive of references.

All original contributions and short research reports should have the following sections:

1. Title Page. This page should include the title of the manuscript, all authors and their affiliations. Full contact details should be included for the corresponding author. The category in which the manuscript is to be submitted should be indicated at the top of the page. The appropriate types of articles for the ASP can be found in an issue of the journal.
2. Abstract. All manuscripts, except short communications and book reviews should include an abstract placed before the main text of the article. This abstract should not exceed 250 words in length. While all abstracts need to be submitted in English, authors are also allowed to submit translations of these abstracts in French or Swahili.
3. Main Text. The main text of the article should, as far as is appropriate, be divided into the following sections: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Prevention Implications.

Style and references
All contributions should follow the American Psychological Association style. This format can be found in:

Please note the format for the Reference List. For example:

Submissions
Three copies of the manuscript must be submitted to the Editors-in-Chief, African Safety Promotion: A Journal of Injury and Violence Prevention, PO Box 1087, Lenasia, 1820, South Africa. Contributors may submit the names and contact details of two referees competent to review their manuscript. Authors will be asked to respond to the editor’s and reviewers’ comments within four weeks. Upon acceptance of the revision for publication, an electronic copy in either Windows Word or WordPerfect will be requested.
